Tanzanite is a member of the Zoisite family. It is a calcium aluminium silicate mineral with a hardness of 6.5 - 7 and an orthorhombic crystal system. The colour range for Tanzanite is blue to blue-violet with some crystals golden to brownish yellow. First discovered in 1967 in Tanzania and named after the country of its discovery. This necklace has been strung on a very supple jewellery wire (for strength) with a sterling silver catch. The Tanzanite chips are an excellent colour, they displays the blue-violet, typical of Tanzanite.
